Frequently Asked Questions

What is telepractice?

Telepractice (also referred to as teletherapy) is the delivery of services through a video platform. It has been proven to be just as effective as traditional face to face services. Telepractice allows for flexibility and convenience, from the comfort of your own space. We utilize interactive and dynamic materials to engage our clients.

What is the difference between speech and language?

Speech is how we say sounds and words. It includes articulation, voice, and fluency. Language is described as the words we use and how we use them to share ideas and intentions. Children may have difficulty with speech, language, or both (ASHA).

What is pragmatics?

Pragmatics refers to the social use of language and the rules of interaction. This can include verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication (e.g., body language, joint attention, conversational exchanges).

What is Executive Functioning?

Executive functioning helps you manage life tasks. These skills include working memory, planning and prioritization, task initiation, time management, decision making, and organization. Without assistance or intervention, certain individuals may struggle with executive functioning throughout their lifetime. If a person struggles with executive functioning skills, he or she may miss deadlines, have difficulty breaking down large tasks, have an unorganized workspace, lack a consistent routine, and trouble prioritizing and initiating tasks.

What is Accent Modification?

Accent modification is changing your accent. Having an accent is not a disorder and this is an elective service, not therapy.  This type of service is for people who independently decide to change their regional accent, which may help them be more efficient communicators. This type of service can help improve public speaking skills, improve communication in the work setting, and increase self-confidence. The training course utilizes the evidence-based Compton PESL Method. If clients follow the program and practice daily, they can typically expect see a 50% improvement in their accent.

Can you help my child with academics?

Absolutely! Speech-Language pathologists are trained to work with oral language, non-verbal communication, and assistance with language processing challenges that can inhibit the reading process, comprehension, and writing. Additionally, Executive Functioning is interconnected with academic progress and success. We provide support in these areas to help students maximize success and access the curriculum.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Easy Expression is an out-of-network provider. We do not bill insurance companies. We would be more than happy to provide you with a coded invoice which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please consider contacting your insurance provider to determine coverage for speech and language services. Additional documentation can be provided on a case by case basis. Accent modification is an elective service and is therefore not covered by insurance.

What are your fees?

The fees for speech and language sessions (including executive functioning work) and parent coaching/consultation vary based on length of session. There is a single course fee for the accent modification program. Please contact us for additional information.

How many speech and language sessions will my child need?

Easy Expression offers individualized and evidence based treatment plans that vary from client to client. The number of sessions will be determined by progress towards goals, engagement, student cooperation, attendance, severity of disorder, family involvement, independent practice and generalization of skills.

How long is the accent modification program?

The length of the accent modification program is approximately 13-weeks (meeting weekly for one hour sessions). We also offer a condensed 7-week version. Group sessions (of up to 5 participants) are also available.

Can parents be involved during sessions?

Of course! We love involving parents in the therapy process and highly encourage it for younger students. This allows parents to see what their child is working on, and to learn strategies being used in therapy which can be transferred into the home environment.
